Grendel, Grendel, Grendel (1981)
It is with great sadness that I share with you the news that Alex Stitt passed away on 2 October, 2016.
In his multi-faceted 50 year career from which he officially retired in 2007, he is best known for his iconic ad campaigns including ‘Life. Be In It’ and ‘Slip! Slop! Slap!’. He worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, animator, advertising writer, designer of educational games, children’s book author, comic strip artist, principal of an animation production house, magazine designer and…apart from the zillions of animated commercials, he produced titles for some of Australia’s best-known films and wrote, designed and directed several films, including two full length animated features, ‘Grendel, Grendel, Grendel’ and ‘Abra Cadabra’.
Alex was inducted into the Halls of Fame of the Australian Graphic Design Association and the Design Institute of Australia. And just in June of this year he was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition for his services to the graphic arts profession and animated film and television industry.
