ASIFA.NET/News: 30th January 2005

After twenty successful years ASIFA Austria celebrated it's birthday in "Filmcasino" - a nice Vienna downtown cinema. Around 200 people came on a saturday at 13 o'clock, to celebrate Austrian animated films and to enjoy a nice buffett with prosecco and italian food....

Founded by students of the Vienna Academy of Arts in January 1985, ASIFA Austria had run its own animation studio, had produced numerous partly quite successful films (like Nicolas Mahlers "Flaschko", which has seen 80 int.festivals in the meanwhile), had done numerous animation workshops and courses for professionals, had organised a lot of local and international films screenings, and had built up it's own archive of animated films from Austria.

However, all that success does actually not withhold the conservative new art ministery to cut the financial support for ASIFA Austria to ZERO - following the state's actual concept to kill the many 'little culture organisations' and to give a few stream-lined organisations the money.

In that situation we have to praise the socialist city of Vienna, which has increased its sponsorship, so we can at least pay rental and electricity of our office and animation studio.
Many thanks to the City of Vienna!

Another nice motivation to go on fighting is the strong international support!
Attached is a collections of all the international greetings, which ASIFA Austria has received at its 20th birthday. The list was officially presented in my speech during the ceremony .

I want to thank you all cordially for your wishes and your support!!
