Each year members in at least three different cities have organized screenings and other events in celebration of International Animation Day.
A few members are active in Animation Workshop Group (AWG), and coordinate workshops for children in their home cities (Traverse City, MI: TAP, Chris Allen-Wickler, and Grand Rapids, MI: Deanna Morse and Gretchen Vinnedge). Films created through these workshops have been screened and won awards at international festivals.
ASIFA/Central holds a yearly retreat or event, where members get together for a weekend of festivity, food, fun, and often a bit of square dancing, ghost stories around the campfire, and/or singing. We screen and discuss films, too. Recent retreats have been held in conjunction with the Kalamazoo Animation Festival International, a bi-annual event. On the festival off-years, ASIFA has hosted picnics, field trips and parties, organized when members feel the need for some face-to-face connection and celebration.
ASIFA/Central has a regular listserv, a website, and a facebook account.
